Making that difference in others lives!

Depression : Most heard and most neglected word in modern days.

What is depression?

A mental health disorder that causes depressed mood, feeling low, creating doubts about one self and makes poor enthusiast in carrying their daily activities.

We neglect it because we never see it as a disease. According to WHO (World Health Organisation), more than 264 million people of all ages suffer from depression and it is a leading cause of disability worldwide and is a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease. It can lead to suicide and according to WHO, more than 700,000 people die due to suicide every year and suicide is the second leading cause of death in 15-29 years-old.

So, why people suffer depression?

Their are many factors that can cause depression. Mainly can be seen between the ages of 15-29 years old. This is the age period where we get exposure to the world and we see discrimination, social violence, lack of self confidence and addicted to social well being more than self well being and also addicted to alcohol & drugs consumption. According to WHO, in the age of 14 years we come across depression and mostly they are untreated and unrecognized.

Why it is unrecognized or untreated?

Most of us think it is normal to feel depressed but for many who don't know it is not just a feeling but a seed that can be very harmful if it gets rooted and starts growing. Many lack to express that they are depressed or feeling low because in the fear of being judged or being not understood by others.

It's sad to say that we people judge everyone without knowing what they are feeling inside and we never try to ask either. We had been falling to the traps of social life, where people judge you by posts that you upload on social media. How many of you posting happy pictures in your social media account are really happy?

Most of this depression word comes from the mouths of modern youths, that means we. We are all so busy in our social life impressing others, having pleasure consuming alcohol and drugs that we forget to take care of our self.

Why am I discussing about this?

We all know how life had been changed in this pandemic. We stopped meeting people. We no more like before the pandemic. Someone talking to you today with smiley emojis maybe hurt deep down, posting happy pictures doesn't mean he/she are happy always like the pictures, if a person looks happy outside doesn't mean he has a perfect life, like these there are many hidden truths that we never try to explore.

There are many prevention according to medical that helps to overcome depression but how many of us taking that. If I have to put in stats that say with an estimate that up to 60% of people who commit suicide have major depression and we the people still neglecting it. If we can look around us and can see many people who are suffering from depression though they won't commit suicide but as a human being is it not our responsible to make another human feel okay or make them comfort?

So, what can I and you do about this?

We just have to spread awareness about this. If any of your friend or anyone whom you know is looking depressed or feeling low give them a space of comfort. Let's say maybe their is 99% chance that you and I cannot change their thoughts all of a sudden to make them think positive but we still have that 1% chance of sparking that positive outcome.

I know exactly how it feels when you don't have anyone to share your emotions and all those stocked up emotions turn into thoughts and final result depression. Lending a helping hand who is in need won't make you any harm. Actually it feels good when someone feels comfort around you. It feels ecstatic when you bring a smile on others face. It's that joy, to which we should be addicted.

TRY MAKING THAT DIFFERENCE IN OTHERS LIVES!
